Facility Planning, Interpretive Concept Development and Planning
While serving as the Aquarium’s Vice President of Planning and Design, Paul led a three-year Facility Master Planning process which set the course for the evolution and expansion of the aquarium over the next 15 years. At the heart of the plan was the concept of interconnected- ness among the plants, animals and people who inhabited any given habitat. Six regions were identified to be the subject of major new exhibits which would tell this story. Two of these exhibits involved significant expansion of the Aquarium’s footprint to the north and the south. The first two exhibits to open, Amazon Rising and Wild Reef, received the American Zoo and Aquarium Association’s Best Exhibit of the Year award, with Amazon Rising receiving the Best Exhibit of the Year award from the American Association of Museums as well.
